Learning Philosophy

Iggy BIG GREEN RABBIT believes the best way to learn is to do it while you’re having fun. This is true for everyone, not just children. The pace of the BIG GREEN RABBIT supports young children’s ability to concentrate on, engage in, and learn new information. Children today can be easily overwhelmed by a fast-paced and ever-changing society. BIG GREEN RABBIT seeks to simplify these complex issues and provide building blocks to help children understand the issues they face. With greater understanding comes greater comfort. Each episode and its complementary Learning Materials focuses on one main message, one BIG concept, by answering BIG questions, such as “What is a Calorie?”, “What is a Rainforest?”, and “What is Extinct?”; we want your child to have fun discovering the answers.

Messages of personal health, nutrition, nature, science, and the importance of “taking care” are delivered with sensitivity and simplicity, making these sophisticated topics age-appropriate. The mix of live-action, animation, music, and dance blends the messages so that they are easy to comprehend and assimilate. The concepts gently explore not only children’s immediate world, but also fascinating environments and places around the world.

Educational Objectives

BIG GREEN RABBIT consulted with the renowned Children’s Youth and Environments Center for Research and Design at the University of Colorado and Early Childhood Education Experts, and followed time-tested public television guidelines to develop a comprehensive set of educational objectives. These educational objectives direct the development of the television series, written materials, and our online experience.

Children will begin to understand the connection between movement (burning calories), food choices (taking in calories), and health.

Life Science – Connecting children with nature and living things

BIG GREEN RABBIT will inspire a connection with nature and increase knowledge about living things through friendly encounters with animals who introduce viewers to their characteristics, habitats, and ecological relationships.

Scientific Inquiry – Encouraging curiosity and the process of discovery

BIG GREEN RABBIT will encourage children’s natural curiosity by raising questions and engaging viewers in adventures of discovery to find answers.

Family Life and Social Skills – Encouraging pro-social relationships

BIG GREEN RABBIT will model healthy friendships and family relationships through the interactions of program characters.

Environmental Awareness – Demonstrating responsible choices

The BIG GREEN RABBIT and his friends will model environmentally responsible behaviors through everyday choices during each episode. For example, characters will choose to ride bikes or walk as opposed to driving. All of the environmental messages will be seamlessly integrated into the program as a demonstration of small, easy choices that people can make to improve the world around them.
